Set up a PizzaBot tablet.

One download, one tap, and a code. Whoever manages the store pairs the tablet from the console, now or later, and picks the app it runs. About five minutes at the tablet, and nothing about the tablet’s Windows account changes. Tablets ordered from PizzaBot arrive already set up, so you can skip this page.

Before you start

A Windows 11 tablet

Ten inches or larger, plugged into power, on the store’s private Wi-Fi (not the guest network). Any current model from a mainstream brand works.

The store on your account

Added on the Stores page with Preppy turned on for it. See Stores and products.

Someone with the console

An owner or manager signed in to app.pizzabot.io on a phone or any computer. They do not have to be in the store.

Three steps

  1. Download and open it

    On the tablet, open Edge, come to this page, and tap Download. Windows then asks three times whether you are sure. That is because PizzaBot Setup is new and not yet signed with a certificate; here is each screen and the tap to make.

    1. Edge, after the download. Tap the three dots, then Keep, then Show more, then Keep anyway. Then open the file from the Downloads list.

    3. The dimmed screen. Tap Yes.
    If the tablet came in S mode, the file will not open at all, because S mode only allows apps from the Microsoft Store. Leaving S mode is free and takes a minute: open Settings, then System, then Activation, then “Switch to Windows 11 Home”, then “Go to the Store” and tap Get. This is one-way and it is what you want.

  2. Tap Install

    Setup has one page and one button. It puts the PizzaBot service on the tablet, checks the Wi-Fi (about ten seconds), and then shows a six-character code with a QR code beside it. That is all the tablet needs from you.

    The code page. You can leave it here: tap Finish for now and the code stays on the screen, renewing itself for a day.

    If the screen says the Wi-Fi needs a sign-in first, tap Open the Wi-Fi sign-in page, get through it, and come back; Setup carries on by itself. A note about a weak signal is just that, a note; a spot nearer the access point is more reliable, but the code still works.

  3. Pair it from the console

    On a phone or any computer, an owner or manager opensapp.pizzabot.io/pair and types the code, or scans the QR with the phone camera, which fills the code in. The page names the tablet, offers the store, and asks which app it should run when the store has more than one. Tap Pair and install.

    The tablet downloads the app and opens it by itself, even with nobody standing there. From then on the app opens whenever someone signs in to the tablet.Pairing a tablet has the details, including replacing a tablet.

    Preppy: connect the Zebra printer by USB and turn it on; Preppy finds it by itself. If no test label prints within a minute, open Settings, then Printer, in Preppy and tap Scan Devices. DMS: open Manage DMS on the console’s Devices page and send the store’s walk-in layout and settings, as inGetting started with DMS.

Good to know

  • The tablet keeps its own Windows account, desktop, and taskbar. The app opens on its own at every sign-in and stays on top. To get to the desktop, close the app or press the Windows key.
  • Updates install by themselves overnight, between 2 and 5 in the morning. Nobody has to do anything. The Devices page shows what version each tablet is on.
  • The screen stays on and the tablet will not restart itself for Windows updates while PizzaBot is installed. Leave it plugged in.
  • Settings and content for the tablet are managed from the console: Manage Preppy or Manage DMS on the Devices page.
  • A tablet set up by an earlier version of PizzaBot Setup, with its own PizzaBot sign-in account, goes back to a normal tablet when you run this version on it: press Ctrl+Alt+Del, sign out, sign in with your own account, and run Setup again.
  • To remove everything, sign in with your own account and uninstall PizzaBot from Settings, then Apps.
